Let Them Sleep!

One of our most common cries for help is the "monster puppy" that is acting wild and bitey, and the more the human intervenes, the worse things get. And the most common culprit? Lack of Sleep.

Did you know that a puppy will typically need between 17-20 hours of sleep a day?!

So often, when a pup hits the Tazmanian devil phase of their day, we humans tend to do more with them because we think they need to burn off more of that puppy steam. And in doing so, we are pushing them to inconsolable exhaustion and overstimulation that causes them to get frenetic, extra bitey, and sometimes downright grumpy.

The next time your pup is entering into the "do not touch" phase, encourage that wee one to go take a nap in a quiet location where they will not be disturbed. Next, make sure you get that kiddo on a schedule to make sure that your pup's learning, socialization, exploration, and playing are occurring in short, sweet bursts and ensure that there is ample downtime built into their day for a good drop in stimulus and plenty of sleep.
